Village Vanguard is one of the oldest and most iconic jazz clubs in New York, located in Greenwich Village at the corner of Seventh Avenue and 11th Street. The club was opened in 1935 by Max Gordon and was originally intended as a venue for poets and performers of various genres. After the founder’s death in 1989, the club was taken over by his wife, Lorraine Gordon, who carefully preserved its format and atmosphere. Village Vanguard has been operating continuously for nearly a century, staying true to the tradition of live jazz. To this day, it hosts performances by top musicians and continues to record live sessions.
